Baby Talk!

It was a friendly telephone call from an old friend that made me realize that I could understand Baby Talk. Blessed recently on the 11th of May with a boy and a girl fraternal twins, Mine and Shilpa’s( my wife) lives changed forever once more. ( It had changed once when we got married three years and ten moons ago). Then Shilpa tried cooking for necessity’s sake and I tried to find solace in poetry. Our marriage was really a case of for batter or verse!

Jennifer, an old friend of mine had called in the morning. Another Good old friend of mine had told her. That our tribe had indeed increased, two fold, with the arrival of our twins. We got talking about the kids and I told Jennifer that I could not understand the reason as to why our babies would cry sometimes with more rhyme than reason. Jennifer told me that slowly I would understand that there are different cries. There is one bawl for I am Hungry , Ther e is one for I am wet and then there is one just pick me up. I suddenly realized that there was one more …The what the Hell do you think you are doing variety! Omigosh ! My kids were crying with less rhyme and more reason!

There are other various cries that my wife and me have learnt to recognize. One is I am cold and obviously the other is for I am Hot. There is one for I am full and yet another for I am sleepy.

The One for I am Cold is generally accompanied by the Legs curled up and the Hands clasped. The eyes are generally open wide . This is distinctly different for the one for I am hot which is accompanied by a rapid cycling motion of the legs ,which removes the nappy as well as any other covering. Arms are stretched wide . The One for I am Full is with a frown and turning of the head when you offer him/her a suckling, often with additional pushing of the breast away. The One for I am sleepy is often with rapid scratching of the face with the eyes closed.

They are so many more I am sure. Many more cries that Me and my wife have to master . I am sure that when they learn to smile , that every grin will have a meaning…. At some time the age of innocence will face the cruel world that we live in, perhaps changing them forever…. How long will this utopia last , I wonder…I wonder…
