The School Reunion

As time flies by one gets many signs about one’s aging. Be it the gasp and pants that accompany your ascent on a flight of stairs or be it the sudden inability to recollect the name of the person in front of you or the sheer inability to gulp down the amount of food which once was your starters. Another sure sign of aging that I discovered today was ones ineptitude with Facebook which would definitely tell you as to which timeline of the Cyber age you belong to .

All that I wanted to do today was to post an Album with a few comments. I did it the way I thought was correct. The fact that only the album came online without the comments or even the title , clearly displays my relative maladroitness in handling things like facebook , which many I am told , know as good as the back of their palm. While the back of my palm is unremarkably plain , So are my skills with social media . While I laid no claims to being a geek , I suddenly discovered that I fit a class of nerds called keegs. I cannot , even now, figure out , what thingamajig, I should have done to get it correctly.

In any case , what I wanted to comment upon was on the Reunion Get Together of the Bangalore Chapter which happened yesterday . Like Prashanth Shanbhogue said, it was special in more ways than one. It was not just a mere meeting of individuals , abut a meeting of Friends separated in time , all with a shared common beautiful past . A Past laden with beautiful memories and experiences. It is a past which undoubtedly and indelibly has left a mark in shaping us to what we are today , It was a sharing of those experiences and our ability to find a little bit, if not more, of ourselves , in all of these recollections that made the occasion special , an Occasion that many are least likely to forget for a long long time.
Every one who participated was special in their own way and worthy of a round of applause and thanks . Chandrashekar Mallya U , a special thanks for the constant encouragement, Prashanth , a big big thanks for always being there,Sudhir India a big thanks for the support, Arun ,Huge thanks for making it despite your personal commitment , Vinod Kumar Muddappa , Thank you for seeding the idea in the first place. It is really wonderful to realize that a simple tele- conversation in December last fructified into yesterdays event , Anjali Ramamurthy ,thank you for being ever- ready for this event, Swarna Nayak , thank you very much for graciously changing your itinerary for this event ,Yogita Surendra , huge thanks for Flying down specially for this event and last not the least a huge thanks to Lokeshwari Shastry for joining the event via Tele conferencing. Sepcial Thanks to Rajesh Ballalfor all the guidance

I stand up in thanking all of you for making it possible yesterday . You gave me an opportunity into delve into my past and visit those days and times and perhaps look at myself again . Many a time I wonder As to what happened to the boy I used to be and as to how time mellows one down. But all that time can do , is perhaps mellow you in age , but certainly not in spirit. One thing Which I am sure all of you who attended yesterday would agree, is that more the things change, the more they remain the same. While time would have added , bald pates and paunches , the spirit amongst all of us has thankfully , and wonderfully, remained unchanged,

Time that has passed by is gone forever they say. But these times can be relived, revisited and recalled again and again. The Lessons for the future , it is said is often in the past. There will be moments , in the passage of time , wherein , weathered with gales and storms , we would look for succor and balmy thoughts. It is the recollection of these times which would be our source of inspiration to rise to the challenges that life would put before us.

Those times were indeed special. Without an iota of doubt , I can say with an air of unabashed confidence that the memories of those times that we lived are a few of my favorite things. To quote Julie Andrews from her song “A few of my favorite things” from “The Sound of Music”

When the dog bites, when the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember
my favorite things
and then I don't feeel so bad!

To all those good times , to all those memories , and to many more reunions like the one yesterday , I say….Amen!
